Makkah Ziyarah: Places to Visit in Makkah

Beyond the rites of Umrah, many pilgrims spend time visiting the historic sites around Makkah that shaped early Islamic history. Here are the places most commonly visited, with a note on what each one is.
Jabal al-Nour and the Cave of Hira
The mountain where the Prophet ﷺ received the first revelation. The climb to the cave is steep and best attempted in cooler hours by those who are fit; many pilgrims simply visit the base.
Jabal Thawr
The mountain containing the cave where the Prophet ﷺ and Abu Bakr (RA) sheltered during the migration to Madinah.
Arafat, Muzdalifah and Mina
The plains central to the Hajj rites, often visited during Umrah trips. Arafat is the site of the Prophet's ﷺ farewell sermon and the Day of Arafah.
Jannat al-Mu'alla and Masjid Aisha (Tan'eem)
Jannat al-Mu'alla is Makkah's historic cemetery. Masjid Aisha at Tan'eem is the nearest miqat where residents and visitors enter ihram for an additional Umrah.
